I believe that every student CAN
Academic
I have a strong approach to our academic curriculum using tools that are available both in person and online. When using digital learning, we partner with companies to help our students succeed. We continue to set strong academic goals for all core subjects, so they continue to reach their full potential. BISD requires our students have set minutes using virtual instruction, which consists of: Math- Happy Numbers Reading- Kids A-Z Science/ Social Studies- Vizzle While only some of the learning takes place online, we continue to have whole group and small group instruction in the classroom setting. www.iste.org/standards/iste-standards-for-students Social/ Communication Skills Our Lifeskills class partners with other students on campus to allow for social enrichment. This may look like "Partners PE", where we have other students on campus that take our class to Physical Education with them. We also send our students out to lunch, recess, some field trips, and other classes with that specific grade level; helping improve the socialization and engagement that our students need in order for them to be successful. |
Functional
When learning by "doing", we are allowing our students to be part of the real world and have them learn by real experiences. Examples of real world instruction may look like going to H-E-B and learning how to shop for groceries and how to check out at the register, along with appropriate behavior in a public setting. Incorporating math into baking bread in the classroom. We are not only teaching the students how they are able to bake, but measuring and counting along the way. Agriculture Approach- Fabra has chickens on campus, which allows our students to learn how to feed and care of these animals. It is also a great way to teach responsibility. Whatever the job may be for our students, we believe they CAN! Token Economy In our classroom, we have set jobs that all students will have weekly. Throughout each week, the students will preform their job/duty and earn a dollar. Not only are we teaching them responsibility, but how you must work in order to earn money in life. Although the dollars might be fake, they absolutely love to earn them. When finishing their assignments, showing good behavior, and doing their job; they earn money. At the end of each Friday, they have the opportunity to shop in our store that we have in the classroom and purchase something. Whether it be a pencil, bubbles, fidgets, or erasers, the items depend of how much a student has to spend. Throughout the week, this allows them to reflect on their behavior and complete their work. |
